BFCC Calendar for 2022

BFCC Calendar for 2022

Tracy&James | Sunday, 20 February 2022

We have just finalised the dates for the 2022 BFCC Meetings with each venue being supported by local organisers - many thanks to them for finding the venues, etc. We now have a full year of casting and fishing activities as all of locations of the Meetings have fishing opportunities nearby.
The first BFCC Meeting in March will be our ‘home’ venue (on the Welsh-Cheshire border) where we will invite some of the instructors to join us fishing on the Welsh Dee around the Meeting. At the moment the rivers are too high and coloured for fishing due to the recent storms. Over the next month I am hoping that this improves and James and I are able to go fishing to check out the beats in preparation. Early season last year was very good and I almost exclusively fished a dry fly from March onwards.

The Cheshire Meeting will be in Dodleston and there are coarse (Carp) fishing lakes nearby – we haven’t checked these lakes out yet, but there may be an opportunity to try getting a common or a mirror on the fly.  From the website it looks like there would be no problem fly casting around the lakes so perhaps it’s worth a shot – we miss the southern carp fishing that we had so it would be great to be able to replace it with something here in Wales (or nearly in Wales).

Our second Meeting will be in South Wales, in Brecon, where we hope to try a day fishing the Rivers Usk or Wye. The Derbyshire Meeting gives us opportunities to fish several rivers, though we’re hoping to fish the River Wye there too (and perhaps get a UK wild rainbow).

On Jersey, we will go for several days and go saltwater fishing, though there are opportunities for trout fishing on lakes, or carp on a fly too. For Kent and Essex, Bewl Water is nearby plus some other small water trout fisheries.

In attendance at each of the casting days will be a series of really great instructors.  I’d probably estimate that more people attend these events to take advantage of the tuition provided than enter the competitions.  So if firing a line down a tape isn’t your thing, there’s still a very good reason to come along. Full details of each of the Meetings can be found on the BFCC website or on our Facebook BFCC page.

In addition to the BFCC Meetings, we intend to go fishing in Scotland and perhaps we’ll extend our trip to Norway for the Worlds to do some fishing there too. We are also planning a trip to Italy to support a fishing/casting event, so may be able to find a day ticket river whilst there.

The fishing I am sorely missing most though is for bonefish, so we’re also hoping to sort some trips to the Caribbean as I can’t go another year without doing saltwater fishing for my favourite target species, or for the opportunity to catch another huge shark, or even the chance to finally catch a good sized cuda. I’m starting to think I may need to give up my full-time job in order to do all this… maybe James and I will do that soon… and join Paul in competing for the number of days in the year that we go fishing. Although I think we are quite a way off that this year already.

Whatever you do this weekend, enjoy

Cheers Tracy
