Flies for Sungai Tiang

Flies for Sungai Tiang

Paul Arden | Tuesday, 8 February 2022

Stuntman Ronan yesterday very kindly offered to donate 60 flies to the Orang Asli guides in Sungai Tiang. As most of you will know by now, this is a project that with your help I’m assisting. And while I’ve been looking for a commercial fly sponsor to provide six full boxes of flies for the Orang Asli fly fishing guides, Ronan has given me the great idea that, we – as in you, I, all Sexyloops readers – can work together to deliver 6 full fly boxes for the fly fishing guides.

The flies that are needed for this river are:

Fast water dry flies, with wings that can easily be seen. Stuff like Humpies, Wulffs, large terrestrials, foam sandwiches. In sizes 8-14.

Slow water dry flies, such as CDC emergers, ants, spinners and sedges. In sizes 12-18.

Nymphs, both heavy and lightly weighted. Sizes 8-20.

Streamers. 2-4 inch bunnies and leeches for the larger Mahseer. Also surface poppers for the Jungle Perch, 3-4 inches long.

What is important is that they are all tied on strong hooks. Lightweight dry fly hooks will simply bend straight!

If you would like to donate to this project, then flies would be a wonderful gift. We have six fly fishing guides; Hadi, Khairul, Roi, Rey, Hassan and Aman. So batches of 6 or 12 would be perfect.

You can send them to me at:

And I shall pass them on!! Many thanks!! :)))

This week I have quite a few online fly casting lessons, which I talked about on Sunday. Also we are working very hard on HT5 orders. So please email if you are interested in a fly casting course or a new rod!!

I’ve been enjoying Andy’s “fit for fly fishing” FPs. I made a pact with myself to go through my 50s (and preferably the rest of my life) as fit as I can be. And that’s been working very well for me. Over the last twelve months my resting heart rate has fallen by over 10 beats per minute. There is no question at all, that it’s important to train every day if we want to be fit, and of course we must eat well.

I’ve just heard that we will most probably be shooting one episode of the fly fishing show in Sungai Tiang next month. That will get me busy tying and organising. Last trip I had a lot of ideas for flies and decided it was time to get armed and organised again for this stuff. One month is enough time, so long as I tie every day.

That is obviously the answer to life. Cast every day, train every day, tie flies every day and fish every day. Everything else in life is window dressing!

Have a great day!

Cheers,Paul
