It's Friday. FP is little late and coming. I really had to do somethings in the morning as it is heavy rain whole day, yet there was short period when clouds just dropped few drops. So now reindeer feeding and some town things are done, just on time when new monsoon started.
Coming week doesn't look promising with weather, almost every day some rain. I have guiding most days. Last Sunday I fished with my nephews and it was great fishing day, some nice graylings and dry fly fishing. Boys had Monday and Tuesday awesome fishing and they beat their personal records with 48 cm graylings. They went to fish on spot which I will definitely keep by myself for special occasions and for boys. They understand that telling place on public is end of story for that.
Now back on headline. It was Saturday evening, April 2022, time was 9.45 pm. I was watching tv, then I took phone to check something and I couldn't see text from phone unless I straight up my hand. Age sight came in 20 minutes. I got multifocal contact lenses as glasses doesn't really work on my job.
Getting those multifocal lenses took some time and our first Malaysian trip I did with test ones. And I was happy with those several years. 2024 June, were where back from Malaysia and I was not happy about how I with those visual acuity. I went to optometrist and we fixed it, still multifocal contact lenses. In August 2024 I decided to take multifocal glasses also as my eyes would need some rest from contact lenses more.
I could use glasses when driving etc, with most of things and as I got also polaroid sunglasses so it would cover pretty much for my basic use and even some fishing. I never learned to read with glasses even those had reading area, for me it easier to take glasses off when reading.
Summer 2025, I realize that I have problems to see small dry fly from distance, issue is that when you have multifocal contact lenses... it is little bit compromise. nearsightedness correction will take little away from distance part, and for me this started to turn as issue. I could still live on that yet....
May 2026 Slovenia, It is time to give up. I still have multifocal contact lenses. Tippet size 8 x and flies size 20 or smaller, if any hair on front hook eye... nope, well yes if you give time. I know one thing which is small and I found hole even there is hair in front of something.
I lift fly up, find right light and background, keep hair away... yep it is possible to change fly... and it only took like 10 minutes instead 1 minute, with some fucks and fucking hell included. No, this won't work. I have tried reading glasses earlier and for me it was way too complicated, take sunglasses away, take reading glasses, etc... too many things when standing in water.
So I found these "reading glasses" which you can place on your cap. I have seen those in use and I was like hell no, not for me. It is time to give up, I will try those. And it is whole new world now. The one I got has +4, so those are really like magnifying glass, now even hair doesn't bother so much. And then with 13 e, you get quality for 13 e. Other lense dropped after two fishing days, I fixed it with gorilla tape and secured other one also.
Now they lasted totally 8 fishing days and last Sunday both came off. I had contact lenses just with farsightedness correction in test. Problem is that I can't see my phone and to see fly and tippet, I need those magnifying ones absolutely.
I have ordered new glasses just with farsightedness and better quality one for cap. I will fix these cheap ones just in case, one lense has started to break from corner/edge.
So my struggle to beat presbyopia is over, it is time to give up. I will start to use those magnifying glasses for changing flies and maybe get reading glasses for flytying. I will go like that until I will get eye surgery which is on list, unless things start to work nicely with these new contact lenses-magnifying glasses combination. I give up, age you beat me on this, don't think you will get me with others so easily.
Have a nice weekend and go fishing
