Hotter than a Hot Torpedo

Hotter than a Hot Torpedo

Here in Malaysia we are in the midst of a heatwave, that is forecast to continue through until June. The good news is that this means that Sungai Tiang will most likely be gin-clear for any fishing trip, barring being exceptionally unlucky.

It is possible to fly here direct from Europe with Malaysian Airlines. I’m sure there are better airlines flying direct too, for example Singapore Airlines. Obviously stopovers in the Middle East are difficult or impossible at the moment and tourism at the resort has about a 15% cancellation rate as a result. Flying from Australia or New Zealand presents no problems at all.

There are a few fishing options. One would be to spend a  complete week fishing the river, which would allow you to explore the headwaters. I can join you for some days at least (maybe not the whole trip). Plus another option is to combine the trip with fishing with me on the lake. This is one of the best times to catch Giant Gourami on fly.

It would be great to see some visitors fishing this river, so please get in touch with me and I’ll help organise your trip.

Over in Texas, Andy is building the Tornados (yes that is also a correct plural spelling of Tornado!). We have a very special limited-edition launch idea for 4/5/6 weights and are going to use a very exotic reel spacer on the first models. More details to be announced shortly.

We are also working hard on the new Sexyloops website’s backend content management system. There will be a few changes and hopefully the site will look better. But there is still work to be done. Rickard has done an amazing job of importing the last ten years of Sexyloops FPs and we are looking at how to import the previous 10 years as well.

I’ve been out fishing a few times of course but not as much as I’d like. Which is strange when living on a boat!! I saw a Gourami well over 5KG. Could have been 7 or 8KG but who knows? I didn’t get a shot at that one, but I did have a shot at another (or possibly the same one, but in a slightly different location) that ate something next to my fly, but not actually my fly. The bastard.

Hopefully I’ll have more time and more shots soon, because I think there are some great opportunities at the moment. Not much in the way of Snakehead activity. A few free-risers to be found. Here in the boat most days the thermometer reads 38/39C.

My run last Friday in town was 14km in 35C. That’s a challenge!! I have another planned for today, but maybe 21km. And then I get some swim coaching this week. It’s all about to happen now and on so many fronts!

Remember if you’re interesting in Sungai Tiang please drop me an email.

Cheers, Paul
