Planning a fishing trip

Couple of weeks ago I got message from my friend. He asked if I could give some tips about fishing destinations in Sweden. I told him that yes, no problem. Then issue was buried for few weeks, I was too busy and their trip is not until summer. Two weeks ago we sat down for coffee and went thru some waters in Sweden.

He told me about what their group is looking for and told about their last summer trip which was game changer for them. I think that they found whole new world when fishing in tundra area for grayling and trout, remote location. For my opion that is best kind of fishing, remote one. Probably out of connection, which means out of this world. You can contcentrate just for fishing and nature.

We went thru some different waters, some of those are not so remote but still great fishing and challenging. Few of the waters are kind of semi-remote, depending how deep you will go. I found few waters which I said that don’t go there even I know that fishing can be excellent. Reason is almost stupid, there is too many Finnish people fishing nowadays. Fishing is still great on those area but….. the left overs what fishermen are leaving is something else. I just can’t recommend fishing in the areas where I know will be garbage and ”camping” spots are filthy as hell. I just can’t understand how people are able to take beer cans in to the wild and still not bringing empty ones back, especially when they will use helicopter.

So I had lot waters which I said skip those. Also I had lot of waters which I said this and this and this. Now it looks like that they have two main options after considering and asking flights. Other one is for sure quiet and great fishing, the risk is that there will be still snow and it is too early for fishing on those waters. That depends so much about how spring and summer will come, and yet decission has to be made early enough to get flights. Their trip will be almost in high season so helicopter flights might be difficult to get if you leave booking too late.

Other option is as I said ”komsii komsaa”, which is ”comme ci, comme ça”…. so and so. River is great, fishing is great, there is awesome lake close by where arctic char fishing is great. And then there is BUT, river has been really popular during the past years around Finnish fisherman, so it might be grouded. It might be fucked up. ( I don’t have really much faith for fishermen I don’t know in here, old habbits die hard). Good side is that helicopter company could take them to area which is difficult to reach by hiking so change is pretty good that it is almost untouchable area.

Two great options, both of them have up and downs. When decission is made, it is made and that’s it. When reaching destination, if there are downs, they have to be able, put those on side and focus on good sides. I have once been guiding on trip where guest couldn’t do that, he was almost ruining his fishing trip. It was terrible to watch and hear, luckily on last day he could relax and save at least some of his fishing.

There is always change that your trip is not like you are dreaming, especially when going remote and new waters. Still those trips are always at least learning experience. And bad day of fishing beats always good day at work.

Have a nice weekend and go fishing
