What season are we in?

What season are we in?

It's been a funny week here. At the start of the week Facebook showed me a memory of seabass fishing last year, I was bundled up against the cold, when I saw the notification it was almost 30 degrees and I was wearing flip-flops. This is after the hottest summer on record, and until Tuesday we'd been seeing record temps essentially each day. It's a worry.

This year the seabassing hasn't started for us yet, because although they're around, we always wait for the cold weather.  The tail end of a typhoon passed by on Monday night and seems to have brought cooler temperatures in its wake. I did get out for a few hours of carping on Monday before the weather started to turn, nothing special just a few fish then home. I should probably have been getting the seabass stuff in order, but Hawaiian Dave has gone to the Maldives for 10 days so it's not much of a rush.

I don't think I need to do much tying, my big flies are ready and in July we booked boats for November, as the calendar was already filling up! It won't be till January when the shad and scad runs are over that I need to think about topping up in smaller stuff. We go through a lot of the small stuff because there's always boats available after new year and we can get out more often. Plenty of time to tie up 4 dozen Albiewhores and rubber candies!

The only thing left is to discharge and re-arm the life jacket, it's actually overdue according to the  date on the cannister, but I'm sure it'll work fine and go of as its supposed to when I test it.  I wonder how many of us do regularly test and re-arm life jackets, I know I'm guilty of not doing it and certainly a lot of the people I fish with are at least as bad, some are surprised by how "often" I do mine. It's pretty irrational really, a little CO2 cannister is cheap and easy to replace very year,. I suppose it's probably because it's unseen being tucked inside the life jacket..and we hopefully never really use our life jackets, so it's easy to overlook.
