Another multi-purpose pattern from the files of John "Bubba" Tebbetts
In spite of the fact that the weather last week was ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE, I am SO ready to hit the salt again. The last several days have been beautiful, which hopefully foreshadows good things to come for the next few weeks. It goes without saying that seeing those two beasts that "heart attack" landed in that miserable weather got both Jackson and I pumped up to explore the southeast corner of Lavaca bay. Friday night I made a few much needed modifications to the Jon boat, and for the moment I am completely caught up on epoxy orders, so if the wind will lay...even just for a day or two, it's going to be on!
For this week's Front Page, I thought I'd post up another of Bubba's Tarpon flies. This week showcases the Purple Grizzly w/Orange. Like so many of his others ties, this one could function equally as well for Pike, Musky or Bass...especially in this particular color scheme. Bluegill, Red Ear, and especially the Red Breasted and Long Ear Sunfish all have splashes of this color combination in their scale pallet. And, for certain applications in both fresh and saltwater, the addition of a set of bead chain eyes may allow one to explore certain layers of the water column that might not otherwise be as easily accessible with the traditional unweighted FLorida Keys style tie.
I have included a reference photo and recipe sheet for your tying pleasure below.
Hope you all are having a great week!
Andy
