I’m in the middle of packing for a weekend of fishing. The destination is Hökensås, a quite famous area for fishing. At least here in Sweden and I’ve seen some FPs from Viking Lars about fishing there. It is a beautiful area, it feels like being up north even if it is located in the “south” of Sweden. What south in Sweden is depends on who you ask. For the guys in Piteå south is what I call north. As Sweden is a quite long country. For me Piteå is really far north. If I go the equal distance south I think I end up I northern Italy.
It will be a weekend of fishing, cooking and probably a beer or two. The days are short now so we will have to keep us entertained with something more than just fishing. Hopefully it won’t be horribly cold. I visited the same dates two years ago and the weather was really nice. I just hope that I’m better this time as I didn’t catch anything fish last time. More on that later.
The fishery is a put and take area. One of the oldest in Sweden. I think it was founded 1957. The fish they put in the lakes are of high quality. That seems to be their idea, quality over quantity. They have their own hatchery which I guess helps with keeping control of the fish quality. Some of the fish in the lakes are getting rewilded. So I’ve heard that you can get good use of your backing here.
“Planning” of this trip has forced me to fix my waders. When I last used them they were only good for wet wading. I did use them though as the boots are nice to have on a rocky bottom, pockets are nice and they give some warmth even if they are leaky. I was quite surprised when I found the hole. I was sure it was quite small. It wasn’t. It was a nick in the sock that was well camouflaged and could fold to be almost proof. That explains why sometimes the waders felt good and sometimes they did fill up fast. Aquasure did an impressive job here. Hopefully I also did sometime of job or I’ll have to buy a new pair at the location.
So last time I visited I didn’t catch anything. But this time I’m better prepared. This time I know what I need when the fish seems to be waking but doesn’t take anything you present on the surface. Then I need buzzers. And it can be a good idea to fish boobies if that isn’t going on.
And last time I didn’t have the HT4 which I think will give an edge with the buzzers. I now have the HT6 also. And the HT7 which was missing a tip section last time. Now ready for the fish waking very far out.

I’m happy to see that USA are getting their shit together and showing that they are tired of MAGA and Trump. Here in Sweden we don’t have a new government yet even if we voted in September. The opposition won but cannot decide how to work together in the parliament so no government formed. But in my city we got a left leaning majority. Then some interesting things happened. The politicians lowered their own salaries. The followed up with their promise to give Nursing assistants in municipal elderly care 6 hour working days. And kicked out all private actors from the elderly care. Interesting to see that it exists politicians that do what they said they would. Refreshing.
Now we have arrived in the cabin. Had a few beers. Cooked dinner on some junk fish and I was fantastic. The lady in the fish counter in the store didn’t even know what we wanted to buy and had to look it up. Atlantic redfish I think the name is. We made fish ’n chips. Everything by feel.
