Just back from a weekend of trout fly fishing at a place in Northern NSW called Uncle Billy's Retreat. A beautiful farm that holds sheep and cattle and the odd boar and piglets. I had a crap weekend for reasons I won't go into but the rest of the guys all caught loads of fish from three stocked dams - one large and two smaller ones.

the photos are of (in order of appearancee) one of the cabins in which we stayed, Vince, Jon, Ez and Brian.

The video this week is from YouTube and was filmed at Uncle Billy's entitled Director's Cut from a series called Father and Son Adventures. It gives you some idea of the area we fished.  The water levels were lower for us but still produced good fishing.

I have attached photos of a few of the guys with their catches.  Most of the fish were of good size between 4-5lbs with the odd small fish and even a foul hooked dead fish.  The fish were caught on various flys from a brown clouser (yes, believe it or not!!!) to a fly tied with hair from the dog of one of the guys!  All caught fish with great success.

For me, the most enjoyable part of these weekends is the comaraderie and social gathering after the day of fishing. The stories of the day, the stories from the past and the jokes!   Tom is a legend in our club and and he did not disappoint us with lots of funny stories and great jokes!  A special note of thanks and appreciation to Brian for his amazing and enlightening knowledge which has helped me enormously with some of my issues about bushfires.  I realise you don't know any of these men but I hope my ramblings will bring us closer together in our quest of fly fishing....heck, we are all on the path to enlightenment!!

I also managed to get a very informative casting lesson from our club's revered casting instructor, Jon. I finally "got" the double haul and now have a great practising strategy.   So my weekend, even though devoid of trout, was well worth the trip for me.

All in all a great weekend with the nicest bunch of guys in a setting that made it feel good to be alive!!

I hope you all have a great week, cheers Glenda
