Here in Malaysia we are still in lockdown. This means no outdoor exercise like running or cycling on your own. But you are allowed out to go to the supermarket, the hardware shop and work in the factories that are allowed to remain open (virtually all shops are shut). Factories of course is where the virus is mostly spread. It would be quite impossible to get Covid doing a solo activity on your own! Factories and Construction account for 60% of cases. Running, cycling and fly fishing I suspect zero. In fact I don’t know of a single cluster that has come from one person doing anything on their own in the middle of nowhere. My only contact with people is my weekly food shopping. To be honest it has always been like that – even before Covid!
Anyway I suspect we will have this on and off for most of the year and I’m quite sure we will have no fishing guests again this year. It did look at one point that we might be able to reopen later this summer but there is absolutely no way this will happen now.
So I’m fitting out the Battleship, training hard on the indoor bike and thinking about 5 years from now when the plan is to buy a yacht and sail the globe for an extended stint. International waters here we come!

Looking forward to testing HT5WT and T27 prototypes soon. I’ve also ordered up a 15’ DHD because I appear to have some free time on my hands! I have often been asked for Double Handed rods, so it’s a good idea to learn properly and I’ll jump into the deep end and train up for competition.
I’ve also been getting my head around some of the physics of flycasting. It’s been interesting to go through equations than I haven’t studied for 30 years. I have a paper from Merlin to read this afternoon on the mysterious dolphin nosed loops. This must be what it feels like to be retired!
