This is a very quick FP from me in case I don’t get a chance to upload something later. I have guests on the lake and they’re doing well!! Both George and Declan have managed a snakehead each. So that’s the pressure off! Hopefully they can now do it on their own while I fish with Richard!
A few more thoughts here inbetween fish! Both Declan and George landed another fish each on their first day fishing on their own together – George with a particularly excellent freeriser. And Richard also caught a freeriser with me on his first day too and had a chase off an adult.
It’s great to be working again and doing what we planned to be doing before Covid hit. The biggest worry as a guide/host is that no one catches a fish! And that can certainly happen here! G&D blanking over two weeks was always on the cards on this fishery and with a blank week from Richard too that would have been really quite bothersome.
However now it’s a numbers and size game. Of course they all might not catch another fish here (because that can still happen!) but the fact that everyone HAS caught a fish and early on makes my job easier :)) Richard is a bit more of a challenge because he wants record fish! But that’s cool and I’ll try to help :)))
I had a bit of a scare with Richard today when motoring back in the rain. 30KM to go and the outboard cut out and wouldn’t start. I had a bit of a look around and took the carburettor apart. Still wouldn’t start. Drained it if fuel and it pull started eventually. 100m further on and same thing happened again!
Funny thing is this happened in exactly the same place that the Honda 15 gearbox gave up when fishing with Chuan 5 years ago and it took 13 hrs to get back to the public jetty. This engine replaced that one. Fortunately this time it started and we made it back. Phew!!! Next week I put in for service, sell it off second hand and buy a new one. Having an unreliable engine here is not something that I want.
Later this year I’ll replace the Battleship engine too. That’s going to put a dent in the pocket!!
Ok back to fishing :)))
Cheers, Paul
