As usual my FP is coming late. I had beautiful plan for this morning to feed reindeer do some small things, normally it would take 1 hour. When taking tractor and going to pick up bale, I noticed that clamps where not opening or closing. There was electrical problem, what comes electrical issues.. well when smoke is gone I check connections. I checked fuse etc, but couldn’t find problem so I had to make plan B and give bale different way. I lost maybe 30 min for that, but trying to figure where the problem is I would probably still be there.
I had time to test drive few reindeers, season has started and it will take off really on Monday. Past week we had frost and chilly, -25 celsius on coldest day, then warmed up to -8 celsius. During the ”heat” we got snow about 50 cm during those two days. Now it is getting cold again and forecast is that week from now it could be even -40 celsius.
Days are really short now, daylight from 9.30 to 15.00 max, and it is getting shorter 3 weeks and until getting longer. You could say that winter is almost gone, hah we have almost 5 months left.
Last week I was speaking Lappish fishing area –days. Bad translation, basically audience was people who decides who fishery should be manage in their area. There was also some authorities from government but also from damn company which have blocked Kemi-river, it used to be best salmon river in Europe.
When speaking to water owners, I was rude when saying that you had fucked up you waters. You could had great trout and grayling waters, with strict rules and locals needs to have same rules than visitors. I could see that some were noding and agreed with me. My presentation had lot of discussions and questions. I was really happy because then people start to think. There was on group who was totally against my ideas and they were even clapping when there was comment about that guiding business is so small and money what it put in to that is less than what is coming. I just said back that” if you have so shitty waters and fucked up waters, there is no chance that income can be bigger, if you don’t have fish, there are no fishermen. And that is nothing clapping about that you have fucked up.”
I could see few faces turning red when they got the point. Most of the audience were smiling. I have never made one region mad in one hour, last week it was possible that I did it. After presentation one authority was asking if I could come to speak on January when they have meeting about fishery in Lappland region. And also damn company’s authority wanted to have me to talk with them about bypass flows for their damns. He said that they have done some rehabilitation work to upstream waters. I just pointed my finger to him and said that it is good, it doesn’t release you from building bypass flows. I should go back to Rovaniemi in next two weeks to have meeting with them.
It is interesting what being rude right way can bring.
