hair

Summer lightning storms kept me off the water this week, but it's a bit cooler at least and I've not been outside in temperatures over 40 degrees which is nice. I have been tying some more hair bugs for bass and started putting together a series of videos on tying them.

I wasn't really planning on this until my mate Mike (@flyordnance) asked me to because he "fucking hates tying those" but would like to get better at it. This is quite a common position I encounter when it comes to people learning to tie hair bugs, I suppose it's testament to how cool they are that folk don't just want to abandon them. My problem though, is that I don't completely feel good enough to do this. I am, I just don't feel like that.
One good thing about doing this is it makes me think about the process more deeply than just tying the flies themselves does. Regardless of what Einstein said, understanding something is not the same as being able to explain it, but explanation does require a more active understanding of the object in question, and an understanding of people.

Anyway, it's still a work in progress, the full plan is far from finished and I'd love to hear from anyone who's interested in this what kind of things they find difficult or would like to have clarified. So far I've got a plan for:
A video on tools and other useful sundries
A video on choosing hair
A video on the technique of spinning
A few videos on spun hair bugs- probably tap's bug, the grinnel fly and the most whit hair bug
A video on the technique of stacking
A few videos on stacked bugs- Whitlock mouse-rat,Dahlberg diver, skipping frog, some kind of popper and some kind of slider

I think this should make for a useful series, but I'm definitely open to input, so do let me know if you can think of something else that would help you.
