It's been terrible weather the last week or so, which has been good for me as I feel less bad just sitting at home tying my new box of nymphs.
I'm actually starting to see the lost box as something of an opportunity because I'm going to be able to simplify the collection. At least I think I will. I think reducing the number of different patterns but carrying each pattern in a wider range of weights/sizes will make life easier. It's easier to choose flies, it's easier to maintain a coherent box. I'm also moving away from jig hooks for stuff like small perdigons, firstly because jig hooks all seem to be massive for their given size and secondly, a standard hook will invert with a slotted or drop bead anyway. Once all the beaded flies are done I'll tie some czech nymph, shrimp and other odds and ends maybe, although I am quite attracted to the idea of everything just using beads for weight so it's easy to know at a glance which flies are heavier. I don't compete anymore so that's not so crucial I suppose, but I don't know yet.
Aside from tying those flies I put together the video from the fateful day that I lost my box. So I'll let you have a look at that in case you're interested in the maruta.
