Being in isolation has meant I've been watching just about every carp fly fishing and fly tying video I could find. Some are very good, and have really re-sparked my interest in carp.
There's a lot of dross, including the well produced videos from the likes of Orvis and The New Fly Fisher. Good production values but weak content. It's probably because carp are still pretty niche and the people involved aren't that interested or experienced in carp fly fishing. It's a shame because carp are a great target species that definitely help make you a better angler and watching a presenter who's barely able to feign interest doesn't do much to inspire.
I did find an excellent channel that really shows how great carp fishing can be, and now has me wondering if I should buy a stand-up paddleboard. The videos aren't long, but focus really well on the approach, presentation and the eat. They'll will definitely teach the newcomer much more than the industry videos and will probably give even the most experienced carp fly fisher some entertainment and something to think about. Here's a nice one from his channel.
Once my isolation is over, I know what I'll be fishing for first!
