Sungai Tiang is open for fly fishing

Paul Arden | Wednesday, 2 April 2025

Ben from Hong Kong was the first fly fisher to visit Sungai Tiang this year. Unfortunately we had some unseasonable weather but don’t let that put you off, because it’s very rare to have rain at this time of year here. I saw many big fish on this trip, despite the conditions, and all the fish seem to have grown in size. Of course the zero kill policy with C&R FF only is going to restore the river to its best potential.

The current trip format is for one or two guests to fish upriver with a guide, while some of the other lads pull up one of two narrow boats behind the anglers. This system works well and means food is excellent and it’s relatively easy to get out again, with fishing options from the boat on the way out again.

The Sungai Tiang website is:

All being well the river should be clear again now and will hopefully stay that way more or less until June, then it’s a bit hit and miss but can certainly be clear and if so perfect for an adventure.

It’s also possible to combine Snakehead fishing with me and Mahseer fishing with the local guides. It should be possible to juggle dates to avoid the evening storms we had last week.

We really need fly fishers to visit, so if you are keen then please plan a trip. It’s very easy to get here from Singapore and Australia, flying to Penang. And if you do a combined trip I’ll pick you up from the airport.

Please feel free to ask me any questions on paul@sexyloops.com

Ok I have a mouse in the boat and it’s proving very difficult to catch!!
